SHIPPENSBURG, PA- A gas leak was reported in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania on Richard Avenue after a gas line was struck on Tuesday.

Vigilant Hose Company was alerted to a reported gas leak around 8:00 Tuesday morning. Local fire departments and UGI Energy responded to the scene to investigate the cause. The fire chief reported that the leak was caused by nearby excavation striking the gas line. Residents in the surrounding area were asked to evacuate.

UGI was able to repair the pipe and residents were told they could return home and gas service was resumed by Tuesday evening.
