Former NFL Wide Receiver Vincent Jackson passed away while staying in a hotel in Brandon, Florida.

Jackson had been staying in the hotel for the past month, and the family filed a missing person’s report on February 10th after not hearing from him in some time. Housekeeping found Jackson in his room on Monday.

Law enforcement and a medical examiner of Hillsborough County are investigating the 38-year-old wide receiver’s death. Jackson’s family told investigators that the effects of concussions and chronic alcoholism might have been a factor leading to his death.

Jackson had retired in 2016, ending a 12-year long career that started with the San Diego Chargers and ended with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His former teammates recall his infectious personality and his charitable attitude. During his career with the Buccaneers, the team nominated him for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award four times.

Many family and friends said that Jackson handled retirement very well. He went back to school to obtain a degree in business. After that, he managed his own real estate company that he started during his football career and owned several restaurants.

Vincent Jackson was a dedicated father, husband, and entrepreneur who spent his retirement helping people in his community and managing many businesses along the way.

His family thanked fans for their condolences and request privacy so that they may mourn their loss.
