Nike is filing suit against MSCHF, the company responsible for selling 666 pairs of Lil Nas X’s customized Satan Shoes.
Coming in at $1,018, the shoes are a new take on Nike’s classic Air Max 97 style, complete with a bronze pentagram charm and a drop of human blood in the soles. The shoes also contain a reference to Bible verse Luke 10:18, which describes Satan’s fall from Heaven. The shoes correspond with Lil Nas X’s newest song release, "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)".
Nike is filing a trademark infringement lawsuit against MSCHF, claiming that they have no association with the product. An official Nike statement said, “MSCHF’s conduct has caused immense confusion about the source of MSCHF’s infringing shoes and tarnished Nike’s brand with an unwarranted association with satanism.” Nike is also filing for a temporary restraining order, where a judge ruled for MSCHF to stop fulfilling orders for the shoes.
MSCHF responded, stating that “MSCHF has made it clear that the Satan Shoes are a collaboration with Lil Nas X, not with Nike,” in a letter that was given to the court.
