In an email Monday the Shippensburg University president, Charles Patterson, announced that the University will be banning all electric vehicles from campus beginning on Mon. March 18th. This all comes following the fire that broke out in the on-campus dorm at Seavers Hall. The problem comes from the lithium batteries within the electrical vehicles. When the batteries are recharged it often creates difficult-to-extinguish fires.

As a result, electrical vehicles will not be allowed inside any buildings on campus effective immediately and must be removed entirely by March 18th. Please note any electric mobility devices such as electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters are exempt from this campus-wide ban.
